The KX057-5 reaches about 12'9" deep, which covers deeper foundations, larger drainage systems, and full basement work beyond what a 3-4 ton machine can handle.
Conventional tail swing — the counterweight extends past the tracks when rotating, so it needs normal working clearance. If your jobs are tight against structures at this weight, the U55-5 with tight tail swing is the alternative.
This is a full-time working machine for excavation contractors, not an occasional-use unit. The power, weight, and dig depth are sized for crews putting real hours on it every week.
At roughly 12,350 lb, this size typically requires a dedicated equipment trailer and a heavy-duty tow vehicle rated for the combined weight. I'd go through the specific trailer and truck rating with you directly rather than guess.
A cab is available and common at this size for contractors running long days or working through Grey-Bruce winters. Canopy remains an option if you want to manage cost.
